Artist Profile
Name: Charles Richard Mouyat
Resides: Sydney Australia
DOB: 26/6/67
About the Artist:
Equipped with a gnostic world-view that fuels his cognitive play and mystical predilections, Charles has a particular interest in exploring the nexus between microcosmic and macrocosmic perception. Working in the digital medium, his explorations in abstraction are rooted in the mystical-expressive traditions of Wassily Kandinsky and Jackson Pollock.
Charles is a gifted draftsman. He finished his Master of Art at UNSW | Art & Design in 2015 achieving high distinctions in each and every drawing class, for studio painting and for his final painting major for which he presented lenticular versions of his Neo Plastic digital works.
Believing that objective drawing will never be supplanted as the keys to an Artist’s expressive ability, Charles was the founding president of the ever popular Life Drawing Society at UNSW. For in Charles’ mind, “To draw is to see, and to see is to unmask the underlying beauty of creation”.
Personal Philosophy:
For the purposes of artistic exploration, Charles believes there is no absolute reality. All truth is relative to the observer in the living moment of observation. Cognition and recognition are the head and tail of one infinitely dynamic loop.
“If the subject is chaos, and the object divines order through the hand of the artist, my work offers a subjective perspective of objective reality. My hypothesis is that all beauty and sense reside in the eye of the beholder, and it is to this immutable first-cause of consciousness, that all world-views are beholden.
“Static points of view are apprehended and merged in momentous/momentums of awareness, and we are wholly reliant on the mercurial nature of parallax to generate our interpersonal worlds. In a quantum manner of speaking, my lenticular art, indeed all art, is only activated when observed. Thus it is my intention to highlight the observer’s role as ultimate creator and judge of shared reality.
“All my work centres around the exploration of polarity and its role in the rise of consciousness. I am particularly interested in the call and response of reflections, both literal and allegorical that swirl in the nexus between ‘self’ and ‘other’.
“Eye see, therefore I am, precisely as you are That I AM”.
